Is This Really Happening Again?
I posted a few days ago about the reception of bad music, what I didn’t mention was that it’s not just music, it’s pop culture in general. Rebecca Black is awful, we all know this, it’s the same with the Jersey Shore and Teen Moms and Paris Hilton/Kim Kardashian…it’s all garbage.
The thing is, we watch and listen to this garbage as a “joke” or just to see what everyone’s talking about…stop…please stop. I get that it’s funny to watch a meathead with a spray on tan talk like an idiot and make an ass of himself, i really do. But, when you find out that he makes $30,000 per episode to simply live his life (like an asshole) and be filmed while doing so, doesn’t that make you a little upset with yourself? I hate to sound like someones uptight dad, but come on!
Rebecca Black is making money hand over fist (what does that mean?) because we all watched her shit video and got her publicity to parade around like all the other garbage out there (she may be a very nice girl with a great family, but she is a terrible “singer” who made an awful video that circulated around the internet is now making more money than anyone reading this blog).
Support real music and real talent…Bayside just came out with a great new record, Motion City Soundtrack is recording their 5th studio album as I type this, A Great Big Pile of Leaves are doing all the hard work that goes with making a name for themselves, and so many other bands that I may not know or listen to or even like are working their asses off to make something of themselves while Rebecca Black farted from her mouth for 3 minutes and became a superstar! Congratulations!
My aim is true.: Popsickle Festival
Motion City Soundtrack wanted a winter music festival in Minneapolis… so we started our own. We are excited to present the first ever Popsickle festival in Josh and Justin’s hometown of Minneapolis, MN on December 18th. Taking over Minneapolis’ famed First Avenue and spilling over into 7th…
If you’re reading my blog and you’re in the Minneapolis area…go to this show, it’s going to be more fun then you’ll have all winter.
Chances are that if you follow this blog, you know me personally, which means you probably know Tyler, Pete and Tucker (A Great Big Pile of Leaves). With that being said, I’ll keep this fairly straight forward…
Get this album!
Seriously though, if you’re looking for something fun for the summer, this is for you. If you’re looking for solid musicianship, this is for you. If you’re still a kid at heart, this is for you…I could go on like this all day. I’ve had “Have You Seen My Prefrontal Cortex?” on repeat for a few days now and it’s yet to get old. There’s so many layers of awesome (that’s a technical term) on this cd, it requires multiple listens to pick up on all the intricacies throughout. There’s oh’s and ah’s hidden behind guitars, unexpected time changes, and an abundance of talent on display. The lyrics are playful and clearly coming from frontman Pete Weiland (still a child at heart) and they perfectly contrast the complexities of the music.
I hope this is coherent and did the job I intended it to do…make you pick this up on June 22nd, when it’s officially released. For now though, you can take advantage of the pre-order going on at their official site. You can also head over to Jessica’s blog and hear a little sneak preview.
A Great Big Pile of Leaves (Pre-Order)
Head over to the site to get your pre-order for the full length, also, you can check out some new shirt designs as well as special packaging offers for the release.
Stay tuned, my review will be up by weeks end (spoiler alert: I’m enjoying it).
A Great Big Pile of Leaves
Stay tuned for my thoughts on this CD. I’ll be listening to it all day tomorrow, I’m only a couple songs in tonight and it’s ‘great fun’ (you’ll get it later).
